The Metz Carillon on IU’s Campus
I took lessons on the Metz Carillon for 8 semesters at Indiana University. In this time I frequently made own arrangements, Rainbow Connection (the muppets) being one of them.
If you’ve never heard of a carillon before it’s an instrument, similar in structure to an organ(is played with both hands and feet), that is connected to very large bells. It’s a public instrument, so when I played on the main tower anyone in the surrounding area could hear(It’s also the ideal listening space acoustically, though the only recording I have of this song is from inside the cabin).
If you’re curious to know more about this somewhat esoteric instrument that became a significant part of my life, check out this page https://blogs.iu.edu/jsomorgan/carillon-faqs/
